Citing Resources

When a writer uses information from other sources in a paper or manuscript, whether it is a direct quote or a paraphrase, the writer needs to cite the source in order to give the original author credit.

Most disciplines use a particular documentation style. If you are unsure of which style to use, please consult your instructor. Various style manuals are kept behind the Reference Desk on the main level of Maag Library. Listed below are some print and online resources for citation. To find additional print resources, search MaagNet using the keyword “style manuals”, or see the list from the Purdue University Online Writing Lab (OWL).

Maag Library subscribes to RefWorks, an online research management, writing and collaboration tool, which is designed to help researchers easily gather, manage, store and share all types of information, as well as generate citations and bibliographies.

For help in using citation, please consult the YSU Writing Center, located in the lower level of Maag Library. Call the Writing Center at (330) 941-3055 to make an appointment.
